I purchased this lil' demon as a result of my Kenwood 52x TrueX breaking down, which I will do a review
on when they replace it. Anyway, let me start from the beginning. I got it out of the package
stuck it in and it didn't work =). I eventually fixed the problem, which had ABSOLUTELY nothing
to do with the drive, so don't think that the quality is bad. In fact, the reason I picked it
was for the Asus name and the access time, which is supposed to be better than the Acer 50x Max.
Well anyhow, I get it working and I notice something right off the "get go," this
baby is loud. I have a Super Case with 2-80mm Evercool fans and a Panaflo 92mm fan all
running and Asus 50x out "screams" them. Another thing I noticed quickly was that
it takes a good 8-10 seconds to get spinning. When I inserted the StarCraft: Brood War CD it
took 12.2 seconds from the time the drawer closed to the time the autoread window opened. I'll
get more into that in the benchmarks section.
