Badge Lite Kit
Page 1 - Light up case badge modification
The Badge Lite from Everglide is a cheap, quick and dirty case mod that every guy with
a drill (or that knows someone with a drill) can do. I'll walk you through the steps
and then show you what the end result looks like.

As you can see, the Badge Lite kit is pretty well prepared. It comes with a Y-adapter,
a 2-pin connector, a badge light, sticker paper, an alcohol cleaning pad, and
fairly detailed instructions. The instruction sheet isn't the highest quality in the
world, but it really doesn't need to be. I didn't even use it, I just perused them
when I was done with the mod. The mod is mostly common sense, but if you don't have
that (common sense) the instructions will get you through the mod safely.
The first thing we want to do is make our sticker. Now, you can create a bunch of these
stickers or you can just create one. The first time through I printed up one sticker
because you can only use one anyway. I'm glad I did this as I'll explain in bit. You're
going to want to create the graphic 1" x 1" @ 600dpi. You can get
away with few dots per inch, but the result won't be as desirable.

As you can the sticker is pretty easy to put on, it's just a matter of getting it on
there squarely. You'll need to notice in the above picture that I put a white
"motion trail" on the XT. This was a mistake. You will see why in a bit.
For now lets move on to preparing the case for the mod.

It turns out that I already had a regular, professionally made case badge. So, I had
to strip it. In case you're wondering why my front bezel from my case looks like it
painted with gray Hammerite, it is because it is. Anyway, now that I've stripped the
badge off with a pair of tweezers it is time to drill.

Widen With Dremel

I picked the largest drill bit out of my set and started drilling as much in center as
could. That was pretty easy, but it was very obvious to be that the hole was far from
large enough. Now, you'll notice I used a Dremel here to widen the whole. Having a
Dremel is not necessary, I just did it because it was faster (for me). You could use
the same drill bit and keep going around the edge of the circle until it is the right
size. Either way will work; you just need to get the hole big enough for a big LED.

Ok, now that we've got the hole drilled, it's time to wire the badge up. I didn't need
the Y-adapter because my 450W Enermax has plenty of molex power connectors. So, I just
hooked up the 2-pin power adapter to one of my spare connectors. Now, it happened that
I have a nice hole pre-made in my case so I just wired it through the hole. You might
not be able to tell, but when I put the face on, the badge is is very
close to the the bottom of the two hard drives. This wasn't a problem for me, but
you'll need to bend the connectors of the Badge Lite down or to the side if your badge
doesn't fit in front of your HDD(s).
