The Altec Lansing 251 system is a great set of speakers to have. Although it doesn’t have advanced features such as a remote, it gets the job done very well at a very economic price ($100 US). It is extremely simple to put together, and requires no previous computer knowledge. The 5.1 system performs well in all frequency ranges producing a crisp non-static sound unless the bass and volume of the song is dramatically increased. If you're not planning on turning your speakers up really loud, this speaker system will be perfect.
Because of its price, the features of this 5.1 system are constrained, and may be less appealing to those who want remotes, control units and huge subwoofers. The surround sound works perfectly under gaming and motion picture circumstances leaving the user in awe. The only suggestion I would give to Altec Lansing is to modify the centre speaker stand so that it is also compatible with LCD Monitors and to improve their sound quality at high levels of volume and bass.
This set of speakers may only attract those who do not indulge themselves in intense music listening (i.e. volume turned to full with heavy bass). For those intense music listeners, I recommend saving a little more money in order to buy a better system that can withstand a larger magnitude of sound. However, I still give this system a 4.0 because of its efficiency and economic price. It's hard to find a 5.1 speaker system this cheap with such high caliber. Once again, a special thank you goes out to Altec Lansing for providing us with this product to review.
