Page 1 - Introduction & Specs
Lately, high speed DDR RAM has been all the rage. With people pushing their front side busses (FSB) to high speeds, good RAM is needed if you want to run it at the same break-neck speeds as your CPU. OCZ is one of the companies making waves. Today, I have a dual channel kit utilizing PC4000 RAM (DDR500) from OCZ to test. Can OCZ deliver stability at the promised speeds? Is the memory fast? These are all questions I have tried to answer in this review.
To start things off, let us get a grip on exactly what I am reviewing today with some specifications. The following specifications were lifted off of OCZ's product page.

Despite being in a hook-hang style package and being less than glamorous in terms of looks, the package opened surprising easy. There nothing I hate more than the impossible to open, stiff plastic packages that you can't tear open because you are scared the product is going to fly through the air. But that is just me, and this is just packaging; so I'll move on.

Included with the two 512MB sticks of DDR500 RAM is an OCZ case badge. Other than that there is nothing, just the cardboard insert used for packaging; this means no instructions, no information, nothing. Clearly OCZ is shooting for the more informed (generally) enthusiast crowd and count on internet access for support. However, internet access is pretty fair assumption given the market and technical support will probably consist more of RMAs than questions about how to open one's case.

The heat spreaders give off a fancy gold sheen and look very good, in my opinion. The sticker clearly lists the speed of the RAM and all the timings, which is something I appreciate and is something I can't say about a lot of companies (I've got lots of RAM and I'm forgetful, what can I say?).
Other than putting in the RAM, the only thing you need to remember to do is increase the voltage of the RAM to 1.75V. If you do not set your voltage your computer will most likely remind you to do so when it fails to load your operating system fully.
